The Committee

We are always looking for volunteers to join the committee and to help us plan, organise and run events throughout the year. Amelia came to England in October 1967. Lived in Windsor and then Isle of Wight before moving to Fishponds, Bristol with work in 1970, then St George and Redfield ever since. Hails from Ballingarry, County Tipperary.

Born in Bristol, father from County Mayo and mother from Cavan. My mother was Canadian originally but also extremely proud of her Scottish roots. Was involved in the first ever Bristol Irish Society committee back in 1989 and has been chairperson for the past 3 years.

Treasurer

Born near Droitwich with an Irish mother and English father. Lived in Bristol for many years, went travelling then moved back to Bristol from Ballot, County Sligo in 2016.

Mandy Curnow

Mandy Curnow

Born and raised in Bristol. Mother hails from Cork and dad is from Cornwall so regularly travels between the two. Joined the committee 9 years ago and was secretary for five years.  Enjoys working with her colleagues bringing the local community together and especially watching the Bristol Irish Society Parade participation growing year on year.

Born in Cork, reared in Dublin. Lived and partied in Enniskillen and Dublin. Been in the UK for 20 years and Bristol for 13 years, working in education.

Jim O'Brien

Came from Ireland in the late ‘60s, originally from Enniscorthy, County Wexford. Joined the committee five years ago and enjoy being part of the organisation.

Born in County Monaghan, arrived in Bristol in 1972. Joined the committee 16 years ago and has helped out in many of the committee roles.

Pat and Bernie McGuinness

Both from Roscommon and have been involved with Bristol Irish Society for many years. They enjoy seeing it go from strength to strength with new younger members getting involved.

Joined the society 3 years ago. Mum is from Walsh Island, Co. Offaly and father from Achill Island, Co. Mayo. Runs www.365bristol.com and the Bristol Association of Restaurants, Bars and Independent Establishments.
